Job summary

Ambitious About Autism's college settings are currently looking for anAssistive Technologist to join the team. Ambitious Collage settings provide excellent education for Autistic young people with complex needs. The college aims to enable learners to access further education and to develop skills and knowledge that lead to successful transitions to adulthood where our learners will live, work and contribute to their local communities.

Main duties of the job

As theAssistiveTechnologist, youwilldevelop, implement, monitor, and enableassistivetechnologyfor ourlearners. Youwillprovide modelling and training to staff and parents on the full continuum ofcommunicationandtechnologysupport. Working as adiagnosticteam member youwillprovide ongoing technical assistance tolearners, staff, and parents.

Your role asAssistiveTechnologist:

  • Collaboratewithcolleagues and parents toshareinformationand expertise to plan and implement effective student programs for the purpose ofdevelopingandimplementingassistivetechnologyservices.
  • Facilitatestudentcommunicationin social settings acrossenvironmentsthrough the use ofassistivetechnology.
  • Workwithlearnerswho qualify forassistivetechnologysupportto develop anappropriateindividualisedlearning plan.
  • Proficientlyusetechnologytocommunicate, compile reports and collect data, providing accurate records andcommunicatingwithteam members, parents,administration, and charity staff.

The role can be based at either sitewithsome travel.

You will support and coordinate the drafting, implementation and evaluation of our EDI strategy and plans working with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), EDI committee, staff, networks and your People team colleagues.

Key accountabilities and dimensions

  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective student programs for the purpose of developing and implementing assistive technology services.
  • Facilitate student communication in social settings across environments through the use of assistive technology
  • Foster the development of augmentative, language-rich environments using low to high technology systems for the purpose of fostering communication across settings.
  • Interpret, integrate, and synthesize information to make recommendations for Assistive Technology interventions and services for the purpose of providing access for learners.
  • Maintain accurate records e.g. student performance
  • Participate, as needed, as a member of a transdisciplinary team for the purpose of ensuring all disciplines come together to ensure a best fit based on individual student needs.
  • Work with learners who qualify for assistive technology support to develop an appropriate individualised learning plan
  • Working collaboratively with Speech and Language therapists to share best practice and understanding of professional disciplines.
