Job summary

The appointed post holder will be a practicing Physiotherapist currently on the HCPC register and a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) with a sound knowledge of practice learning within this context. You will contribute to the development and assessment of practice learning opportunities for both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Physiotherapy students, providing them with the basis for a high quality practice learning experience and research informed educational experience. The role will include collaboration with clinical/academic colleagues to develop and prepare appropriate clinical placements including educational audit and clinical liaison and to contribute more widely to the delivery of the Physiotherapy programmes. You will be expected to work two and half days across Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday in the first instance of starting this role.

Your teaching and learning activity will be informed by your professional knowledge, practical experience and research to support high quality learning and teaching both in clinical learning and within the University.You will experienceusing our Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), and technologies to enhance the learning, assessment of and feedback to students.

Function of the Post:

As a lecturer in practice-based learning, within the School of Nursing and Allied Health, you will contribute as a member of the teaching team in a developing capacity. You will be provided with assistance to adapt into the Higher Education environment, with the support of a mentor and/or senior colleague. You will work collaboratively with both academic and clinical colleagues to ensure effective teaching and clinical placements to prepare students for work and enhance employability within physiotherapy.

Principal Accountabilities:

As a Physiotherapy Lecturer in practice-based learning, you will work across both the placement learning unit and the Physiotherapy courses. Your working year will predominately focus on co-ordinating and assessing within the practice learning opportunities for all Physiotherapy students, teaching, teaching-related administration, assessment and research in such proportions as may be decided by the Head of School, after appropriate consultation and, in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Academic staff.

You will be responsible for the development and assessment of practice-based learning opportunities, providing them with a high-quality, research informed educational experience, leading to an understanding of Physiotherapy professional knowledge and practice. You will also contribute to developments within the wider placement learning unit which includes interprofessional working, supporting collaborations with clinical colleagues to develop and prepare appropriate clinical placements including educational audit and clinical liaison. You will ensure maintenance of clinical competence through clinical activity, in addition to facilitating and supporting the University quality assurance initiatives required for practice learning. The role will also involve a contribution to the wider School of Nursing and Allied Health including income generation activities, student recruitment and, where appropriate, support other departments within the University.

Essential

  • Practicing Physiotherapist currently on HCPC register for minimum of 2 years with recent clinical experience.
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
  • A good relevant undergraduate degree.
  • Masters level qualification in related subject to Physiotherapy/Education/Health or willingness to undertake within an agreed timeframe.
  • Qualified Teacher Status/HE teaching qualification or willingness to undertake the
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education/Academic Professional.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of issues affecting Physiotherapy learners in clinical practice.

Desirable

  • Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
  • Working towards a Doctorate or willingness to undertake within an agreed timeframe.
  • Membership of relevant specialist interest group(s) related to your area of specialism.

Experience
