Research,
Knowledge Transfer and Consultancy
Leads small research or
consultancy projects including setting the objectives of the project, leading
the team and managing the work of junior or temporary staff.
Develops research objectives
and proposals for own and collaborative research.
Makes recommendations to
manager or project leader on e.g. development needs of the team, research
design, the need for further research based on research outcomes.
Writes literature reviews to
establish the latest research in the field.
Collects data using a range
of suitable techniques.
Analyses primary and
secondary data gathered through a variety of methods.
Publishes project reports,
research papers and journal articles and present research outcomes to
conferences / seminars.
Continually update knowledge
and understanding in field or specialism.
Leadership
and Management
Leads small research project
teams.
Provides training and
development as necessary to temporary or junior staff working on research
projects.
Business
Effectiveness
Writes or inputs to project
bids with colleagues including writing the detailed methods and techniques
and rationale etc.
Liaises with clients where
unrealistic / changing expectations on deadlines or funding, involving
manager as necessary to resolve.
Researches and identifies
options for future projects or consultancy and generates some funding through
research/KT/consultancy.
Identifies possible partners
or clients for consultancy and other sources of income through networking,
assessing journals / publications to consider future research direction.
Teaching
and Learning Support
May be
involved in teaching on appropriate courses and supporting research students
e.g.:
Leading seminar
groups.
Act as
dissertation supervisor for UG and PG students.
Part of
Doctoral supervisory team.
Provide service
to students when involved in lecturing or supervision.
Delivery
What
constitutes an appropriate volume of research publication and an appropriate
level of research income will be identified in the subject-specific job
details.
Quality
Consistent delivery of
research, knowledge transfer and consultancy activities to time, budget and
quality.
Written reports, papers, and
presentations to be of a high standard, appropriate for journal submission,
client reports and conferences.
Presents own papers at
conferences.
Delivers refereed papers
and/or significant professional publications.
Able to work to at least
national standing in terms of research outputs.
Volume
Writes (on own or jointly) a
number of journal and conference papers each year.
Contribute or leads on
research grant applications/bid writing each year.
Funding
Identifies funding
opportunities/bids and generates small amounts of funding through
research/KT/consultancy projects, young researcher awards, travel grants etc.
Evidence of securing small
scale research/KT/consultancy projects.
Contribution to authoring
bids for projects and may be responsible for management of specific research
tasks/strands.
External
Standing
Has an emerging academic profile,
developing as an expert in a particular field or area of research.
Evidence of standing from income
generation and academic activities, typically with smaller organisations.
Represents the organisation at
conferences and meetings with external partners and clients.
May be a journal reviewer or
assistant editor.
Role-specific responsibilities
Implement research activities as stated in the study
protocol.
Working alongside the Senior Research Fellow
undertake evidence scoping and critical appraisal, and synthesis of evidence
to inform an evidence-based approach to programme development.
Explain the study to potential participants and take
consent from research participants.
Perform the collection of research data through
mixed method approaches such as surveys, qualitative interviews, focus
groups, observational contextual inquiry and help plan and deliver co-design
activities with C&YP.
Alongside the research team perform data analysis
and produce interpretation of findings in written reports and formats for a
range of audiences.
Work collaboratively with the study team and
external partners to produce innovative age-appropriate study communications.
Conduct stakeholder consultation activities with
health care professionals, C&YP and carers, and community-based
stakeholders such as service commissioners, sports and community groups, teachers.
Undertake work to identify outcome measures of
interest to C&YP and carers, health care professionals and
community-based stakeholders.
Liaise with project partners including academics at Universities,
clinical colleagues at NHS Trusts, external organisations, and Yorkshire
Cancer Research.
Assist in writing and publishing project reports,
research papers and journal articles and presenting research at
conferences/seminars.
Contribute toward future research funding proposals.
Undertake
any other duties relevant to the project.
