Job responsibilities

1. To contribute to the teaching of academic and clinical skills, ensuring the seamless integration of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice within the Nutrition and Dietetics courses.

2. To design and develop innovative and inspiring learning materials and assessments, including e-learning, to fully integrate a blended learning approach.

3. To take an active role in cross-School activities, including teaching, contributing to the inter-professional philosophy of the School.

4. To advise and contribute to development of academic content of modules and the Nutrition and Dietetics courses.

5. To carry out academic administrative work and participate in relevant committees within the School, College and University.

6. To develop and deliver high quality learning and teaching for dietetics and other allied health students at all levels, including face-to-face, online and practical teaching and assessment as required.

7. To contribute to the effective and appropriate assessment processes for students including the setting, marking and moderation of student work (theoretical and practical), individually or collectively as part of a module team in accordance with quality assurance procedures.

8. To carry out innovative and inspiring learning modules including, enhanced online learning approaches.

9. To support and contribute to practice education as requested by the Practice Education Lead / Team and / or nominee.

10. To engage in research and scholarly activity that underpins practice, and which contributes to the University and School objectives ensuring up-to-date, leading-edge teaching.

11. To support dietetic students academic progression as a Personal Academic Tutor, module leader including maintaining records, for a group and / or individual students as required in order to support students.

12. To participate in recruitment and selection activities.

13. To undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the Head of Department or nominee.

14. Maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job; participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training.

15. Take steps to ensure and enhance personal health, safety, and well-being and that of other staff and students.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

• Up-to-date knowledge, experience and expertise in dietetics education.
• Evidence of teaching in practice and / or Higher Education, including the ability to enthuse, motivate and facilitate student learning and intellectual challenge, using a variety of methods of learning and teaching.
• Ability to work as a cooperative team player in a multidisciplinary environment across professions, with the ability to motivate and inspire students and colleagues to achieve shared objectives.
• Effective organisation and prioritisation skills to independently manage a busy and varied workload, as well as provide support to colleagues.
• Ability to communicate confidently and clearly, both orally and in writing, with a wide range of stakeholders including students, academic and support staff colleagues, and external partner representatives.
• Suitable level of proficiency in ICT and an understanding of its application to teaching, learning, applied research and academic administration.
• Evidence of on-going continuous professional development in dietetics.
• Ability and commitment to supervising student research projects.

Desirable

• Evidence of clear research plans, publication and / or scholarly activity consistent with career stage, and evidence of capacity to contribute to high quality research outputs.
• Experience of inter-professional practice and / or education.
• Experience of clinical skills teaching and simulation for dietetics.

Qualifications

Essential

• Active HCPC registration and Member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA).
• Essential criteria to be considered for the role of Senior Lecturer: A Masters degree in Dietetics or a relevant subject area.

Desirable

• Teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship.
• Doctorate in a relevant subject.
