An opportunity has arisen for the appointment of two posts as Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at London South Bank University. The successful candidate will join an excellent, Diverse, dynamic and hardworking midwifery team to provide high quality Midwifery education.

Ideally, applications will demonstrate a track record in midwifery and practice education; however, we are prepared to support the right candidate to achieve this whilst working at LSBU.

The successful candidate will support the Head of Division and Lead Midwife for Education (LME) in the delivery of midwifery education and research within the midwifery division.

We are therefore seeking to recruit an experienced midwife to take up this post. The successful candidate will join a diverse team committed to enhancing the healthcare workforce in partnership with providers across London, Essex and the south East with the aim of transforming midwifery services for the benefit of women and their families.

Main duties of the job

About You:We are looking to hear from candidates who have the following skills/experience:

  • NMC registrant as a Midwife.
  • Degree plus preferably PGCE or Masters relevant experience (For Grade 8).
  • Experience of working with a broad range Midwifery experience:
    • Experienced at organising and facilitating workshops/events.
    • Experience of teaching
    • NIPE (essential for one of the two posts- either grade)
    • Medicine management and additional care needs, PMA experience highly desirable
    • Current working midwifery knowledge and insight into national and local guidelines

The ideal candidate will be degree educated, be highly motivated and bring a thorough understanding of the Midwifery in the UK and international. Should have a passion for teaching and enhancing Midwifery education and supporting the current workforce.

Job responsibilities

1. Core activities - Learning and teaching

(a) Prepare effective and original educational materials to deliver high quality teaching as evidenced by predominantly strong module feedback and high student success on taught modules, as appropriate, in the subject area.

(b) Undertake module co-ordination/leadership, as appropriate, including contributing to the development of specified, high quality modules/courses which meet students needs as specified by the Executive Dean (or delegate)/Head of Division.

(c) Prepare, invigilate, mark and moderate assessments, in accordance with University policies and procedures, providing provide timely and effective feedback to students.

(d) Contribute to the practice based learning of students, fieldtrips, residentials and other student activities as required from time to time.

(e) Provide personal tutoring to individual students in accordance with University policies and procedures as required from time to time. This can be under roles such as Link Lecturer, Personal tutors, Academic Assessors and other supportive roles.

(a) Produce innovative learning materials that can be shared across other institutions/disciplines;

(b) Write and/ or contribute to publications, and disseminate research findings using appropriate academic media;

(c) Contribute to conferences through lectures or poster presentations;

(d) Prepare, scrutinise and contribute to educational entrepreneurial grants; (e) Receive educational awards;

(e) Active and recognized contributor to internal or external learning and teaching networks/groups, and to relevant professional bodies;
