Job summary

The National Disease Registration Service (NDRS) is part of NHS England Transformation Directorate, Data and Analytics. In partnership with other teams and groups within NHS England and beyond we provide the expertise to identify, collect, collate and quality-assure detailed and rich population-level datasets for specific diseases and conditions.

As a Registration Officer for the National Congenital Anomaly and Rare Disease Registration Service (NCARDRS), you will need to have, or be prepared to acquire, a detailed working knowledge of congenital conditions and rare diseases in order to support the local and national team in driving the timely delivery of Disease Registration objectives in line with coding, best practice and operational objectives.

Main duties of the job

What's involved:o You will need to acquire and maintain detailed knowledge of the current principles and procedures of congenital conditions and rare disease registration, and the UK and European framework within which the national Register operates.o You will clinically code and validate data from notifiers (mostly obstetric, neonatal, paediatric, and laboratory), processing records and interrogating data from electronic systems. Raise and follow up queries with data notifiers to ensure that clinical information is complete, liaising with clinical and clerical staff at all levels.o You will conduct longer-term data follow up to enhance completeness of records and include more outcome information.

About us

Our staff bring expertise across clinical, operational, commissioning, technology, data science, cyber security, software engineering, education, and commercial specialisms -- enabling us to design and deliver high-quality NHS services.

We lead the NHS in England by:

  • Enabling local systems and providers to improve the health of their people and patients and reduce health inequalities
  • Making the NHS a great place to work, where people can develop and make a difference
  • Working collaboratively to ensure our healthcare workforce has the right knowledge, skills, values and behaviours to deliver accessible, compassionate care
  • Optimising the use of digital technology, research, and innovation
  • Delivering value for money

Earlier this year, the Government announced that NHS England will gradually merge with the Department of Health and Social Care, to create a smaller, more strategic centre that reduces duplication and waste.

If successful at interview, we will initiate an Inter Authority Transfer (IAT) via the Electronic Staff Record (ESR). This retrieves key data from your current or previous NHS employer to support onboarding, including competency status, Continuous Service Dates (CSD), and annual leave entitlement. You may opt out at any stage of the process.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
