Training Programme Director - TRES Surgery

Job summary

The Training Programme Director for Trainees Requiring Extra Support (TRES) will support the Head of School in Strategic Development of the School of Surgery

The post holder will lead on the development of the School's Recruitment and Retention Strategy and contribute to supporting the School Operational Programme.

The post holder will be a member of the School Board.

As a result of NHS England's (NHSE) integration into the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), please note that the end date for all new educator secondments/posts will be 31st October 2026. The successful applicant will be updated regarding potential extensions beyond this date

Main duties of the job

The post holder will specifically have responsibility for:

  • Development and implementation of strategy to improve support for TRES trainees. This will include education and enhanced roles in development of educators and post graduate doctors in training (PGDIT)
  • Act as liaison to support PGDIT's who have developmental needs (portfolio, targeted competencies or enhanced support) either identified by specialty specific training programme directors or educators.

Essential

  • Consultant in a Surgical discipline working in NHS in North-West England

Desirable

  • Education Qualification such as Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Medical Education

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of organising / delivering education programmes / courses
  • Considerable experience of working with doctors in an educational context
  • Experience as an educational supervisor
  • Previous or current appointment as a Leader in Healthcare Education
  • Understanding the Workforce Transformation agenda
  • Trained and experienced in recruitment, selection and Equality and Diversity in the last 3 years
  • Applicants who are doctors require a Licence to Practise
  • Demonstrable track record of delivery in service and education

Desirable

  • Clinical Manager Experience
  • Experience in Constructive appraisal and feedback of strengths, weaknesses and training needs
  • Knowledge of principles of Performance support in medical education and training and awareness of recent changes in the delivery of medical education and training nationally and locally
  • Awareness of funding streams for Healthcare Education
