Job summary

The government's forthcoming ten-year plan will set out how to deliver the three shifts for the NHS: hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention. This role will be at the heart delivering that change in London, working with system partners to deliver high quality care and supporting a digitally-enabled, neighbourhood NHS.

This role leads a set of programme teams in the Improvement, Transformation and Partnerships Directorate of NHS England London Region. The postholder will be responsible for driving improvements in quality and value-for-money in health care in line with national and regional priorities, and for supporting the ambitions for longer-term transformation in London.

The team includes:

Elective improvement - working closely with the getting it right first time (GIRFT) team to support clinically-led change and improvement

Cancer improvement - including oversight and joint working with the four London Cancer Alliances

Diagnostics improvement - including the delivery of the community diagnostic centre (CDCs) and driving service improvement in pathology

Sustainability - including delivering the Green Plan for London and developing climate resilience in partnership with the GLA

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a wider Improvement, Transformation and Partnerships team in the London region, with the ambition of delivering sustainable change. The directorate works closely with partners across London to deliver the shared London Vision and will also deputises for the Executive Director of Improvement Transformation and Partnerships and is on the EPRR "On Call" rota.

They will work closely with clinical leaders and system partners from across London to support improvement on national and regional priorities. The post holder will support system improvement, as well as ensuring delivery of core standards and supporting longer-term transformation.

For the most challenged providers and health systems, the postholder will work closely with other national and regional functions to mobilise intensive support to bring about sustained improvements in the quality, cost and efficiency of care.

They will work closely with the digital team to embed data and digitisation in the NHS across London, and to support service transformation.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

System Improvement

Work with the Director of Performance in London to maintain an in-depth understanding of performance and efficiency and system challenges

Responsible for overseeing a structured approach to identifying improvement opportunities across systems and co-ordinating deployment of resources

Shape the integrated improvement support offers that meet differing needs across the region, bringing specialist expertise together with delivery capability

Ensure that trusts and systems, as well as the broader regional team, have access to good practice improvement science methodologies

Work with the performance and finance teams to ensure effective reporting against regional efficiency targets and improvement programmes

Service Improvement

Leadership and oversight of the core regional programmes:
