Job summary
We are in the process of establishing long-term capability to deliver the New Hospital Programme - the 3rd largest programme on the Government's Major Projects Portfolio enabling the delivery of NHS's Health Infrastructure Plan.
As the Senior Commercial Operations Manager, the postholder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering our ambitious programme, encouraging the programme organisations to work together to deliver more efficient commercial and corporate services.
The postholder will work closely with the workstream lead to help to shape our thinking about the future of these services across the programme and the wider NHS.
The postholder will work closely with others in the Commercial Operations team and across the Directorate.
The postholder will form strong working relationships across delivery teams, within NHSE, with external experts to support the delivery of commercial strategies that benefits the programme and wider NHS England.
They will support the work of other projects across the team, working alongside the senior leadership team and the Deputy Director to achieve this.
The postholder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to support the planning, scoping and delivery of projects and wider, supporting them to implement new ways of working and deliver change.
Main duties of the job
The postholder's role will largely cover the following:
Supporting the development of the commercial strategy and framework from which success is defined and subsequently assessed.
Supporting NHS England, the Commercial Directorate and other functions to recognise and understand the role that data, systems and standards plays in delivery of value for money, leading edge services.
Supporting the development of the commercial toolkit, drawing on industry best practice and public sector insights, to support the programme to identify and address the challenges it faces with innovative solutions, through for example ideation tools, information sharing platforms and innovation selection.
Supporting the identification, selection, and delivery of best practice and innovation with partners which can then be showcased to the programme system to encourage further ideation and change.
Supporting the communication of all aspects of the commercial work - from strategy through to ideation and delivery.
Working within a matrix virtual team from across NHS England, the wider NHS system, and suppliers to define problems, plan and execute their delivery.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.
NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. To be eligible for sponsorship through the Skilled Worker route you'll usually need to be paid the 'standard' salary rate of at least £38,700 per year, or the 'going rate' for your job, whichever is higher.
