Job summary

The Head of Programmes will work to the Deputy Director of Delivery -Community and Mental Health, in the IUEC Directorate. Working collaboratively across the NHS England, including the iUEC Directorate, Community and Mental Health teams, UEC operations, Discharge and Flow, and Intermediate Care teams along with 7 regional UEC operations teams.The Head of Programmes will provide operational support, advice and guidance on delivery of services and supporting service transformation. The post holder will help develop and deliver best practice for discharge and patient flow, as well as supporting regions in the implementation of intermediate care. The post holder will provide subject matter expertise and support to the national iUEC operations team and regional UEC operations teams, particularly in areas related to patient flow and discharge, community and mental health along with intermediate care.The regions are as follows:East of EnglandLondonMidlandsNorth East and YorkshireNorth WestSouth EastSouth West

Main duties of the job

Key Functional Responsibilitieso Provide strong clinical leadership and operational support to IUEC national and regional teams on discharge & flow, intermediate care, rehabilitation and reablement and community mental health.o Work with regions and trusts directly to implement policy and ensure it is being delivered.o Work with the partners within the regional teams and across priority programmes to ensure consistent approach to delivery by providing access to timely accurate information to support decision making.o Liaising with a wide range of stakeholders including government and professional bodies, providing subject matter expertise in operational delivery practices.o Work with the Deputy Director of Delivery to manage the financial and data aspects of the programme in partnership with key areas such as the data and intelligence workstream and the national finance teamo Ensure that there is a clear overview and grip on discharge policy implementation issues which can be acted upon at national level in order to create the best environment for successful implementationo Directly line manage team members and functions as appropriate.o Deliver an efficient, effective and high-quality professional service, meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements.

  • Proven and significant leadership experience and/or formal management qualification.
  • Evidence of continued professional development in relevant fields

Skills and capabilities

  • Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information where there may be significant challenge.
  • Ability to effectively plan and think strategically and analyse and resolve problems in a multi-disciplinary environment.
