Job summary

Applications are welcomed from Registered Pharmacy Professionals for the full-time or job-share vacancy as the pharmacy clinical lead for vaccination programmes.

The post holder(s) will work as part of the SW vaccination and screening team (VaST), a dynamic team delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across Primary Care Commissioning and the wider South West health system(s). The post holder will be a key member of the South West Regional Pharmacy Leadership Team as well as a member of the vaccination and screening team.

The role will help systems plan and monitor performance to optimise their overall delivery of care to patients. In addition, it seeks to reduce unwarranted clinical variation and to provide assurance as to the most effective and efficient use of resources across the region.

Main duties of the job

The post holder/s will use expert knowledge to support all vaccination programmes across the South West region, ensuring awareness of the relevant characteristics of the vaccines and the implications this has for vaccine efficacy and patient safety.

The post holder(s) will provide high quality pharmaceutical advice on matters relating to the practice of pharmacy, including completing pharmacy and medicines assurance checks of vaccination sites, investigating and advising on product integrity concerns, providing oversight, assurance and approval of COVID-19 vaccine transfers in line with regulations and investigating concerns about performance of NHS pharmacy contractors, complaints and other quality issues.

The post holder(s)will also manage the process for authorisation of vaccination PGDs, whilst these services are commissioned by NHSE. The postholder(s) will work with colleagues in the screening and immunisation team to further develop a quality assurance process related to vaccine storage and wastage.

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Post holder(s) should have experience of working in fast-paced roles and have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. It should be noted that as this is an evolving programme of work roles and responsibilities may also need to evolve over time. The post holder(s) will therefore be required to work flexibly to support the needs of the vaccination and screening team.
