Job summary
NHS England's Diagnostics team sits within the Chief Operating Officer's Directorate and has a strong relationship with the national teams for Elective, Cancer and also Transport.
This role, as Deputy Director (Imaging) will lead the Imaging team to support the development of imaging networks and other service improvements and will share the learning from imaging network development across the other diagnostic disciplines.
Main duties of the job
A key focus of this role will be to support the implementation of the findings of both the Carter Report and the Richard's Review in respect of diagnostic services by developing new insights and improvement tools to support service and network improvements. The improvements are aimed at increasing activity to meet demand, improving productivity and supporting Trusts to ensure the right patient receives the right test at the right time.
Our ideal candidate would have:
- Operational management experience or clinical leadership experience in imaging services at a senior level
- Experience of working with national and regional colleagues to drive improvements in imaging services
- Good understanding of national policy in respect of imaging services, including the findings of the Richards report
- Experience of working with key external stakeholders such as the Royal College of Radiologists, the Care Quality Commission, and the Department of Health and UK Accreditation Service.
- Board level experience, including using appropriate presentation materials and confidently demonstrating a deep understanding of the subject matter and findings, and facilitate subsequent discussion effectively

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.
