Job summary

We are looking for someone who is passionate about screening and immunisation, who will be energetic and motivated and who can deliver to a high standard. The post holder will understand health disparities and health inequalities.

The post holder will need to be able to build strong, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders such as hospital trusts and GP practices. Previous experience or an understanding of screening, immunisation or commissioning would be beneficial.

The South West Vaccination and Screening team covers the South West region. Theteam commissions national screening and immunisation programmes as specified in the Section 7a agreement (which define the public health services directly commissioned by NHS England). This includes the local commissioning of the national cancer screening programmes, non-cancer screening programmes and routine childhood immunisations and targeted immunisations for adults and children.

By providing evidence based public health guidance and advice the post holder will support the commissioning of clinically safe, high-quality section 7a programmes.

Main duties of the job

The Screening and Immunisation Coordinator has responsibility for supporting commissioning and delivery of high-quality of the Section 7a NHS screening and immunisation programmes, within a defined portfolio to be agreed.

This will be achieved by:

  • Monitoring performance
  • Developing strong relationships with providers
  • Developing relationships with Integrated Care Systems (ICSs)
  • Incident management
  • Responding to queries and advising providers
  • Preparation for and attendance at, provider meetings, including programme boards
  • Monitoring Screening Quality Assurance Service recommendations
  • Monitoring risks and issues
  • Contributing to various reports aimed at internal and external stakeholders
  • Using their health inequalities knowledge to lead specific health inequalities projects

Other responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of other programmes to provide cross cover where necessary
  • Participating in team and regional team meetings
  • Sharing knowledge and acting upon recommendations

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

  • Educated to Post-graduate degree level in relevant subject (e.g. Public Health, Biological Sciences, Nursing) or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in relevant specialist area

Skills

  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge in a relevant discipline (i.e. understanding of principles of population screening and immunisation)
  • Experience of engaging, motivating and leading individuals and teams.
  • Significant experience of successfully operating in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects / programmes in complex and challenging environments.
  • Experience of drafting briefing papers and correspondence at senior management team level
  • Experience of managing risks and reporting.

  • Clear communicator with excellent written and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately to a diverse and varied range of audiences consisting of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyse complex issues where material is conflicting and drawn from multiple sources.
