Job summary

NHS England's National School of Healthcare Science hosts the End Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) which delivers the final assessments of all apprentices undertaking healthcare science apprenticeships, at all levels, across England. This is a key post within an organisation which has earned a reputation for high quality assessment.

The Examinations and Assessment Officer will be pivotal in the administration, management and conducting of end-point assessment. The post holder will be responsible for managing the effective and efficient administration of end-point assessment in accordance with the regulations and/or awarding body rules for exam administration, ensuring a consistent and secure method thereby helping to maintain integrity of the assessment process.

Main duties of the job

The post holders will work closely with the EPA management team and with a wide and varied range of stakeholders at all levels.

You will manage the day to day operations and have the opportunity to influence and shape the strategic development of the service. Able to provide comprehensive project administration support, you will be highly organised, able to multitask, problem solve and prioritise your own workload with minimal supervision. You will be conscientious with meticulous attention to detail and see tasks through to conclusion including leading, delegating and overseeing the workload of others. You will be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills and be confident in using all MS Office packages and be capable of learning how to use other digital platforms with training.

You will be educated to degree level or have an equivalent level of knowledge or experience in a similar area. Skills to influence, negotiate and manage challenging conversations with tact and diplomacy will also be useful in this role. The right candidates will demonstrate drive and enthusiasm for the service they will deliver.

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent level of experience/knowledge from working in a similar area/environment
  • Good understanding of a range of work procedures and practices which require a level of expertise or specialism obtained either through formal training or equivalent experience e.g. project management, data analysis, high level administrative procedures

Experience & Knowledge

  • Experience of working in a senior administrative or project management roles
  • Experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders and providing information and advice
  • Knowledge of and experience in assessment methodologies and delivery
  • Working knowledge of MS office packages
  • Knowledge of maintaining confidentiality, data protection, information governance and data management
  • Experience of supervising and managing a small team including induction, training and performance management
  • Experience and knowledge of exams and exam systems

  • Experience of working in Apprenticeships or for End Point Assessment Organisations
