Job summary
- Lead the Horizon Scanning and Demand Signalling (HS/DS) and Innovation Business Development function of IRLSS working closely with the director to set the strategic direction in response to organisational requirements.
- Deliver the HS/DS and Innovation Business Development programmes of work including management of issues and risks and regular reporting including corporate returns to both NHS E and the AAC board
- Ownership of key strategic stakeholder relationships both internally and externally including but not exclusively: clinical policy teams, national clinical directors, Medicines Value and Access team, NIHR, OLS, NICE, MHRA, DHSC, the life sciences industry and their representative bodies
- Oversight and ongoing management of contracting for our horizon scanning provider and additional delivery partners ensuring the appropriate capability and capacity for IRLSS and NHSE
- Ensuring alignment with cross cutting IRLSS NHSE policy and strategy including health inequalities, PPI and net zero
- Promotion of the team and its work setting a clear narrative to ensure the functions are embedded into operational delivery in the organisation.
- Annual business planning to ensure the continued development of the team and its capabilities including budget setting.
- Wider contribution to delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan and the Accelerated Access Collaborative's objectives as IRLSS SLT member
Main duties of the job
- A strong strategic mindset and an ability to build and deliver against a vision.
- Understanding of the commercial environment impacting early stage innovators, and the levers through which innovations can be supported to pull through technology into health care
- Extensive senior experience of development and delivery of multiple complex programmes of work across organisations, including establishing in-house or external advisory services
- A good understanding of the role of data within healthcare, including the role of patient data, market intelligence and analysis, and care pathway modelling and the role this can play in the transformation of care.
- A track record of creating strong collaborative partnerships across organisations, agreeing shared priorities and developing work plans against those areas.
- Ability to translate complex scientific topics into communication materials suitable for a range of specialist and non-specialist audiences
Key aspects of this role will be to: -
- Ensure the strategy is formulated, understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure the development and management of relevant strategic plans, within the Sector.
- Ensure appropriate system and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the strategy plans in the new organisations.
