Job summary

Working closely with the Regional Medical Director, ICB Chief Medical Officers and provider CMO's in all sectors (acute, community and mental health), the Medical Director Secondary Care Transformation will provide strong clinical leadership with respect to secondary care transformation to drive continuous improvements in quality of care, health outcomes and reduction in health inequalities across the population that is cost effective and prioritises prevention.

Main duties of the job

  • The postholder will provide clinical leadership across a range of regional priorities. Examples include but are not limited to:
    • Working with other directors engaging clinicians and other leaders at all levels to facilitate integration of secondary care across all sectors, health and social care, physical and mental health.
    • Provide clinical leadership with a specific focus on the secondary care sector, supporting improvements in the quality, and experience of patient care including engaging clinicians and leaders at all levels to promote clinical improvement and reduce unwarranted variation.
    • The post holder will be a key leader in promoting seamless integrated care pathways from primary to secondary to tertiary care and will focus on the relationship between community and hospital settings.
    • Provide strategic clinical and operational leadership across the transformation portfolio.
    • Ensuring that there is effective clinical leadership of improvement and transformation workstreams spanning the whole care pathway including non-admitted, diagnostic and admitted pathway
    • Play a key role with respect to medical workforce transformation to support operational recovery in secondary care and deliver the NHS Long Term Plan clinical priorities, in close collaboration with the Workforce, Training and Education Directorate and other key stakeholders.

  • Experienced, registered, practising Secondary Care clinician with a well-developed understanding of current health and social care issues and policy; experience of working at a senior level within a local system
  • Member or Fellow of relevant Royal College or Faculty
  • Registered medical practitioner with current GMC registration
