Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic experienced registered nurse to support this key role in in the regional nursing midwifery and workforce team supporting the delivery of national nursing initiatives in line with the CNO strategy and NHS long-term workforce plan.

The successful candidate will have a current nursing registration together with a Master's degree as a safe staffing national clinical fellow.

Main duties of the job

The role offers a significant opportunity to help shape national policy and will support the development and delivery of safe staffing initiatives in practice across all healthcare settings, and the development of a national and regional set of evidence-based guidance across all nursing fields of practice. Working regularly with the national team across all the evidence-based, safe staffing tools, the successful post holder will work collectively with national colleagues to coproduce and revise safer, staffing guidance, and provide expert advice in relation of the implementation of the PNA role. Working regionally the post holder will support training, utilization and review of safe staffing with provider organisations aligned to NHS England's new models of working.

1) Full registration as Nurse, and in good standing, with relevant professional body.2) Educated to masters level as a Safe Staffing CNO Fellow. Building on specialist knowledge, function as an expert professional leader to effectively contribute to safe staffing. Delivery of national training related to safe staffing tools.3) Lead projects of significant scope ensuring that they are planned, managed and delivered effectively. Supporting a wide range of programmes and co-produce national strategy in areas of expertise ensuring sustainability. Able to make a connection between their work and the benefit to patients and the public. Create an inclusive working culture which understands the importance of diversity and inclusion in delivering our role in the health and care system.4) Work in an inclusive way with all stakeholders including patients, NHS bodies ALBs, regulators and ICBs. Collaborating with teams across NHSE, provider trusts and engaging with a wide variety of partners and stakeholders. The post requires significant focus on building networks, work with senior nursing teams and others regionally and nationally, acquire a deep system appreciation whilst supporting the delivery of key programmes of work. Have an appreciation of the relationship between CNO for England, the Department of Health & Social Care, individual provider and commissioning organisations.

The successful candidate will have a track record of supporting the delivery of successful programmes of work and change. In addition to working closely with our national and regional teams, the successful candidate will be expected to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including local system and provider organisations.

Working both as a team member and independently you will be innovative and able to balance multiple competing priorities and programmes, able to demonstrate an ability to meet deadlines, have an understanding of project management, governance, risk management, Informatics and communications and engagement.

Salary progression Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8d with a full-time starting salary of £83,571 with a pay step increase after 5 years service. These salaries are offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and the HEE Pay Progression Policy and are subject to annual cost of living review.

  • Extensive understanding of the implications of national workforce programmes on nursing staff. Experience of working within the regional arena, with a good understanding of the roles of the CNO for England, the Department of Health & Social Care, and Arm's Length Health & Care bodies
  • Detailed knowledge of the workings of the NHS, social and independent sector care and an understanding of working of social care representative organisations. Extensive experience of safe staffing evidence based tools and application Strong understanding of the policy environment.
