Job summary

Strategic Nurse Advisor - MSSP

This is a very short-term position and therefore applicants must be available for an immediate start.

As a Strategic Nurse Adviser the post-holder will lead a time-limited project reviewing the Maternity Safety Support Programme (MSSP) and work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting managers and staff across the Nursing and Midwifery sector:

  • providing strategic nursing/clinical recommendations to the Chief Midwifery Officer with the aim of improving the MSSP and related maternity safety workstreams
  • have accountability and responsibility for the strategic and operational development of the assigned review
  • design plans to achieve the strategy underpinned by the delivery of short to medium term objectives

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a full review of the MSSP including governance and assurance mechanisms.
  • Make recommendations for future running of the programme, considering contemporaneous issues in maternity services.
  • Proactively manage the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond.
  • Monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of the review to ensure completion within agreed timescales.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
  • Experience of project and programme management techniques and tools such as Prince 2 or Managing Successful Projects
  • Registered Nurse or Midwife with current NMC registration

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • Subject matter expertise across a number of key areas relating to nursing and midwifery policy, patient safety and quality improvement
  • Proven and significant clinical leadership experience and/or formal management qualification.
  • Significant evidence of continued professional development
  • Demonstrated expertise in a Healthcare environment Proven Board level experience of leading and delivering complex change and strategy development programmes in a politically sensitive and complex environment
  • Significant management experience at senior level in the NHS or other public healthcare related industry
  • Significant experience and understanding of proven implementation of project management methodologies or a Prince 2 or managing successful projects practitioner.
  • Experience and/or understanding of the UK Health Economy
  • Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment.
  • Experience of leading major change initiatives with entrepreneurialism in a challenging organisational environment
  • Significant experience of managing and prioritising a large budget with solid knowledge of financial process requirements
