Job summary
The Hospital Operations (HO) workstream is part of the Transformation Directorate and has formed to support the delivery of the NHP vision and strategic objectives from an operations lens.
As part of its remit, the HO workstream will provide operational readiness support and guidance to each of the programme's cohorts. The workstream will also provide the NHP and stakeholders with assurance. Additionally, the HO workstream will outline policies and procedures that will operationalise hospital 2.0 that will ensure excellent healthcare outcomes and enable designs to maximise benefit from established healthcare transformational assumptions.
The various cohorts are at different stages of their business case, design and commissioning lifecycle, and the HO workstream will provide tailored support to the different schemes within the cohorts. HO will develop a central hub to ensure all workstreams within the Transformation directorate of the NHP can collaborate and drive operational safety, productivity and effectiveness focus throughout the life of the programme.
Main duties of the job
As Hospital Operational Manager, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in the Hospital Operations Workstream of the New Hospital Programme, providing support to the Hospital Operations Director to deliver the Programmes Hospital Operations strategy. They will collaborate with the differing workstreams and coordinate the respective responses to create optimal Operational Readiness (OR). This will encompass the strategic response, assurance activities, supportive approaches during operational commissioning, readiness, activation, decommissioning and post occupancy evaluations to share learning opportunities.
The post holder will deliver an efficient, effective, and high quality professional and well-co-ordinated operational service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the organisation. As the New Hospital Programme is evolving, the precise nature of the role may need to change as the programme becomes established and agreed. The post holder will need to work flexibly across several delivery areas and locations.

The post holder will be responsible for: Supporting development of the Target Operating Model and future iteration of the operational chapters of the New Hospital Programme Manual. Contributing to the development of an integrated package of operational tools to support operational commissioning, readiness, activation, decommissioning and post occupancy evaluations. Collaborate with internal and external partners to support the development of multi professional workforce models to enable optimal pathways to be delivered efficiently whilst optimising workforce health and wellbeing. Work with partners in the programme to ensure optimal care pathways that deliver high quality patient outcomes. Delivery of the operational objectives of the Hospital Operations workstream and the wider New Hospital Programme plan using a blended offer of support, practical tools and evaluation. to capitalize on the potential for improvement over the lifecycle of the programme. The post holder will define current processes, facilitate discussions and advise colleagues as to how best practice might be adopted in the definition of future processes, document those processes as they are agreed and oversee their delivery. Work to develop and manage the progress dashboard reporting and risk and issue management. Develop and implement systems to ensure information is properly managed and best practice is shared across the team, Directorate and the wider NHS organisations as appropriate.

Salary Progression Applicants will commence at the bottom of Band 8c with a full-time starting salary of £70,417, with a pay step increase after 5 years service. For posts based in Inner London, the above salaries will include the additional supplement of 20% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £5,132 per annum and a maximum payment of £7,746 per annum. This is offered in accordance with NHS Terms and Conditions and is based on office location.
