Job summary

Applications are invited for a Band 7 Programme Support Manager on a Fixed Term (Maternity Cover) basis within the Training Programme Management function within the North East area of NHS England. The function is responsible for the training of doctors and dentists across the North East and North Cumbria area.

The Programme Support Manager is a crucial role within the Postgraduate Dean's team, providing high quality business support and project management to a varied portfolio of work.

The role is based within the organisation's Newburn Riverside (Newcastle-upon-Tyne) office, however, the job can be worked in a hybrid model with some time working from home. Regional and occasional national travel may be required.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with the Postgraduate Dean and Head of Function, the successful post holder must be able to both work autonomously on their designated work portfolio but also as part of a team.

For example, the post holder works as business lead for the SAS Doctors (Specialty and Associate Specialist) network in the area. This involves chairing/presenting at meetings, business support of events, policy development, budget management and communications.

In general, the postholder:

    • Plays a key role in internal/external communication, developing networks and effective communication with individuals and other organisations regarding the activities of the organisation.
    • Assists in the development and implementation of protocols, proceduresin relation to defined function area(s) of Programme Management in order to support the delivery of a quality service.
    • Attend and contribute to identified meetings. Chair/present at meetings as required.
    • Monitors and reviews the development and progress of work activities within defined function area(s), providing analysis and information in order to report to the Postgraduate Dean, Deputy Dean(s) and Business Manager(s) on past, current and future trends and highlighting potential risks.
