Job summary

As Associate Director of Commercial Delivery, the post holder will lead and work as part of a dynamic commercial team. They will lead significant areas of complex commercial delivery and large teams and undertake a senior leadership role in managing our supply base effectively and be pivotal to delivering successful commercial outcomes while making complex and challenging decisions across NHS England.

This will include many of NHS England's highest-impact commercial arrangements in terms of criticality, reputational risk and value with portfolio value in excess of £1bn.These commercial arrangements arehighly complex and visible, and the role requires a proactive approach and strong leadership to drive commercial input and ensure industry best practice, delivering value and identifying and mitigating NHS England from commercial risks.

This role is a key part of the Sub Directorate and oversees and sets the overall commercial delivery strategy for the clinical service category

Main duties of the job

  1. Lead all areas of commercial delivery for the clinical service category (from procurement strategy through to contract exit) demonstrating experience of leading large and complex procurements and contracts including many of NHS England's highest-impact commercial arrangements in terms of criticality, reputational risk and value with portfolio value in excess of £1bn.
  2. Experience of leading multi-disciplinary commercial teams including support and coaching for professional development (e.g. GCO ADC accreditation).
  3. Drive and lead commercial and industry best practice for the category with a continuous improvement and innovation focus, delivering value and efficiencies and identifying and mitigating NHS England from commercial risks.
  4. Work with national and senior directors and stakeholders in NHS England, across the health and care system and across Government to achieve robust commercial outcomes.
  5. Lead and set the overall tone of the relationship with suppliers to build and maintain strategic relationships at a very senior supplier level aligned with GCO and Crown Representatives across Government.
  6. Lead on complex dispute resolution between strategic suppliers and the NHS.
  7. Bring comprehensive knowledge of end -to-end commercial lifecycle at expert level, including Public Contract Regulations and NHS/Government Commercial policies, including political awareness of commercial initiatives demonstrating leadership in implementing new procurement/commercial policy.
