Job summary

NHS England's strategic events team is looking to recruit a highly organised, motivated and flexible strategic events manager with the flair and imagination to deliver and support forward-looking, engaging corporate events for health and care leaders and their teams

As a strategic events manager, you will work as part of a small but dynamic team to plan and deliver great events which inspire colleagues and share learning and best practice across the health and care system.

We have approved the external recruitment of these/ several business-critical roles as fixed term contracts. This decision was made through the agreed recruitment controls process and endorsed by national directors.

The reason for Fixed Term Contract is: Maternity Cover.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading on key aspects of organising our flagship event NHS ConfedExpo in June 2024 in Manchester, attracting around 5,500 delegates and featuring high-profile speakers across a number of stages.
  • Leading on delivering our programme of NHS leadership events, around 8 per year.
  • Evaluating our NHS leadership events against set objectives, to inform planning for future eventsand ensure they are responsive to NHS leaders' needs and preferences.
  • Helping co-ordinate attendance at high-profile external national conferences and exhibitions.
  • Building effective working relationships with teams to ensure events are an integral and effective channel within communications strategies and plans.
  • Providing professional events guidance and support to internal teams to help them plan their own in person and online events, conferences and workshops, in accordance with policies and in the most cost-effective way.
  • Oversight of the delegate registration system and supporting the design and procurement of a single future system.
  • Reviewing business cases to ensure events being delivered across the organisation offer value for money and are appropriate.

  • Educated to post-graduate degree level in events management, communications, marketing or other similar subject, or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in the specialist area. Further training or significant experience in project management

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of the events industry
  • Knowledge and experience of events venues
  • Experience of working within an events role or a communications/marketing role with responsibility for events
  • Experience of marketing events or similar projects
  • Demonstrated experience of co-ordinating projects in complex and challenging environments. A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of events management/registration systems and working with a range of online events platforms and engagement technologies.
  • Experience of writing and developing communications resources and materials for a range of channels, including online and offline
  • Experience of developing tactical marketing plans using various channels
  • Evidence of continued professional development. Experience of managing risks and reporting. Experience of drafting reports, briefing papers and correspondence for senior management level.
  • Experience of monitoring budgets and business planning processes. Understanding of the public sector.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of project principles, techniques and tools, such as Prince 2 Foundation and Microsoft Project. Experience of setting up and implementing internal processes and procedures.
