The opportunity

This is a newly created senior finance role offering a broad and varied portfolio. Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning & Business Partnering, you will provide leadership across financial planning, management reporting and business partnering, while managing a small team of finance professionals.

You will be a credible, confident finance leader, who is able to operate effectively at senior levels, exercise sound judgement, provide clear financial insight in a complex and fastpaced environment and work closely with the Executive Team, Finance & Corporate Planning colleagues and senior stakeholders both across the organisation and externally with the DHSC.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Provide oversight of the organisation’s financial management and planning activities
  • Lead the preparation of corporate financial reports, with appropriate senior oversight
  • Deliver robust financial management, forecasting and reporting for administrative budgets, including business partner support to directorates
  • Support the annual budgetsetting process and development of the business plan.
  • Provide support on ad hoc commissions from the Department of Health & Social Care, including headcount and spending reviews
  • Work closely with the resourcing team on workforce planning and forecasting
  • Lead the timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts, ensuring highquality and insightful reporting
  • Support project managers in developing business cases, including investment appraisal, pricing and product development
  • Provide deputy cover for the Head of Financial Planning and Business Partnering as required.

What you’ll bring

  • CCAB accountancy qualification (i.e. ACCA, CAI, ICAEW, ICAS or CIPFA), or equivalent seniorlevel experience
  • Proven experience of leading, managing and motivating a team
  • Strong technical financial management and accounting expertise
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex financial information and provide clear, practical solutions
  • Experience of financial management within the NHS or wider public sector
  • Strong business partnering capability, with experience of influencing senior stakeholders
  • Experience of producing and presenting clear, highquality financial reports and analysis
  • Sound knowledge of NHS and public sector financial frameworks, systems and processes are desirable but not essential
  • Strong understanding of management accounting techniques, including forecasting, budgeting, costing, investment appraisal and pricing
