Main duties of the job

We are recruiting for Senior Claims Managers with clinical negligence claims handling experience to join us and support our main aim by proactively managing claims from commencement to conclusion on behalf of Members and Beneficiaries of the indemnity schemes that we are responsible for as an NHS arms length body.

We are NHS Resolution, an arms length body operating under the Department of Health and Social Care. At our core, we specialise in claims management, dispute resolution, and knowledge sharing within the NHS. Our purpose is to provide expertise to the NHS to resolve concerns fairly, share learning for improvement and preserve resources for patient care. Our Claims directorate is responsible for managing a total of ten indemnity schemes covering clinical and non-clinical legal liabilities of NHS organisations in England and independent sector providers of care to NHS patients.

Job responsibilities

The opportunity

We are recruiting for Senior Claims Managers with clinical negligence claims handling experience to join us and support our main aim by proactively managing claims from commencement to conclusion on behalf of Members and Beneficiaries of the indemnity schemes that we are responsible for as an NHS arm’s length body.

What you’ll be doing

  • Managing a caseload of complex or high value claims on behalf of Trusts, GPs, and NHS England, ensuring successful handling and resolution.
  • Working closely with claims function colleagues to deliver our strategic aims of fair resolution whilst ensuring lessons learnt are fed into wider NHS safety systems to improve standards of patient care.
  • In conjunction with Technical Leader colleagues promoting the delivery of high technical performance of the team whilst maintaining exemplary customer service.
  • Promoting high quality standards of case handling to deliver Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) across the team which consistently meet or exceed designated audit requirements.
  • Supporting the technical development of team members in collaboration with the Operational and Technical Leads, contributing to their career progression.

What we’re looking for

  • Extensive experience of handling clinical negligence claims to a successful conclusion and experience of successfully managing a complex and or high value caseload while successfully achieving set targets
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the application of current law relating to clinical negligence claims
  • Demonstrable evidence of the ability to plan and organise a broad range of complex activities within a claims environment
  • Excellent communication skills, including composing complex correspondence and legal documentation
  • Experience of planning, designing and delivering training to share expert knowledge with claims colleagues
  • The ability to explain highly complex issues to internal and external stakeholders and overcome any barriers to understanding
  • Understanding of NHS Resolution strategic objectives, philosophy and PEER values
