National Obstetric Clinical Fellow

The closing date is 15 December 2025

Job summary

We are pleased to advertise an exciting opportunity to join NHS Resolutions Early Notification (EN) team, working within the Safety and Learning Directorate, as a National Obstetric Clinical Fellow on a fixed-term or secondment basis for one year. The post is available from February 2026 onwards, this is open to negotiation as we acknowledge the time frames for approval required by employers and/or deaneries.

Please note that this job is Pay Band: AfC 8b or Equivalent salary according to Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (according to stage of training/ experience).

Main duties of the job

Since its launch in April 2017, the EN Scheme has played a vital role in maternity care. All maternity services are required to notify NHS Resolution of incidents where there is potential for long-term severe brain injury. The schemes aims are to:

  • Investigate potential eligibility for compensation, taking proactive steps to reduce legal costs and improve the experience for families and staff.
  • Share learning quickly with individual trusts and across the wider system to support safety improvements and prevent recurrence.
  • Build on our Saying Sorry and Being Fair work, ensuring that openness, candour and learning are never barriers to obtaining compensation.
  • Preserve evidence so we can respond effectively should families bring cases at a later date.
  • Improve the process of obtaining compensation for families, meeting needs in real time wherever possible and reducing the risk of claims escalating unnecessarily.

About us

NHS Resolution is a not-for-profit arms length of the NHS working for health care providers to resolve claims fairly and to share learning across the NHS and beyond. We provide a supportive environment for our staff with specialist training and the opportunity for personal development.

NHS Resolution operates several indemnity schemes, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, primarily for the handling of liability claims against English NHS Trusts and other commissioners and/or providers of NHS care.
