As we embark on an ambitious data and digital transformation our BI team is looking for a Data Engineer to support the changes that will enable us to thrive.

This role will be responsible for the development of on premise datasets and pipelines, ensuring the integrity of our data, and undertaking project work to support our stakeholders. As such, this role requires extensive experience of SQL Server and management of data with SSIS and SSRS. Migration to an Azure data platform is key to our transformation, building a truly agile environment tailored to our requirements. The Data Engineer will contribute to the implementation of a bespoke data model and the pipelines that support it.

Main duties of the job

Knowledge of elements such as Synapse Analytics and DevOps will be hugely beneficial to this role, and we will support you with training as we grow in this environment.

Applicants will also have the opportunity to work with colleagues across the organisation. This means working with Data Scientists and Analysts to ensure the ETL/ELT processes are powering appropriate data models, and liaising with non-technical colleagues to help them get the most from their data.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop the data platform on SQL Server, using T-SQL and SSIS to maintain reporting base tables and views.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance and underlying design of ETL/ELT processes.
  • Participate in work to maintain high standards of data quality, accuracy and reliability.
  • Become an expert on technical matters, including the complex data sets available to the organisation.
  • Learn about the Azure data platform and contribute to the evolution of our data landscape as we move it to the cloud.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders across the organisation to understand their requirements, scope projects, and review outcomes of development work.

What we’re looking for

  • Educated to Masters’ Degree level or equivalent relevant experience in database development and management
  • Proven ability explain complex analytical methods to non-analytical people
  • Ability to collate, analyse and interpret extremely complex data sources.
  • Extensive experience of analysing complex datasets effectively in a variety of settings
  • Experience of working with and combining data contained within different data sources
  • Extensive experience of complex SQL code to include development of scripts, functions, procedures, views and dynamic SQL. Commitment to own personal and continued professional development
