Job summary

NHS Resolution is a not-for-profit part of the NHS working for health care providers to resolve claims fairly and to share learning across the NHS and beyond. We provide a supportive environment for our staff with specialist training and the opportunity for personal development.

We are recruiting a Payments Officer on a 12-month fixed term contract on a hybrid or homeworking basis.

Ideally you will have experience of working in Accounts Payable or in a general finance environment where high-volume daily payments are made. NHS or public experience sector is preferable but similar experience in insurance or retail environments would also be accepted.

You will be working within a team who collectively process batches of daily BACs payments relating to claims settlements and other expenditure, as well as other daily activities relating to Accounts Payable. These are typically rotated among team members, so the role has some variety from week to week.

For applicants in Leeds, there is a local office where there would be a requirement to work from the office, on average once per week.

As a wider team we also get together for in-person meetings in Leeds or London, on average once a month.

Main duties of the job

Financial Responsibilities

  • Responsible for updating NHS Resolution Creditors Ledger, ensuring that all supplier invoices received is logged for accrual.
  • Reconciling creditors ledger control account to supplier balances.
  • Accurately producing payment runs, by Payable Order, BACS or CHAPS and, within agreed timescales.
  • Ensuring all payments and remittance advices are distributed within agreed timeframes.
  • Accurately file payment batches following payment.
  • Ensuring Direct Instruction Invoices are processed timely and accurately, so that the NHS Resolution obtains optimum discount on invoices.
  • Ensure accurate and timely payment of all periodic payments.
  • Producing and reconciling the weekly cash flow reports for review by the Panel Scheme Managers.
  • Processing staff expenses on time and accurately.
  • Processing all payment cancellations timely and accurately.
  • Ensuring that any recoverable VAT due to NHS Resolution, is identified and appropriately coded to enable recovery.

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skill (e.g. Outlook/Word/Excel etc) and financial software packages including strong Excel skills to intermediate level.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Team player, as this role as a rotational aspect where the set tasks from week to week will change on a rota basis, so there needs to be conformity and adherence to processes that have been designed with this in mind.
  • Excellent attention to detail, as the amounts worked with often involve high values, so mistakes can be costly. Able to work effectively under pressure. There are times of the year when daily payment volumes are high.
  • Ability to manage own workload, use own initiative and work to tight deadlines
