Portering & Transport Team Leader

Job summary

This is a key post within the Portering service which comprises all Portering services, post and mail services along with the external vehicle courier service.This role will be responsible for the supervision of a team across a rotating shift pattern covering a 24/7 hour service.The role requires the post holder to oversee and allocate work to the team including, movement of patients, specimens, equipment, furniture, mail as well as linen and movement of drugs.The post holder will be required to perform some/all of the above duties in addition to attending mortuary, resuscitation and some security duties.

Main duties of the job

1.Day to day supervision of Portering Officers and Courier drivers, allocating work and ensuring daily tasks are efficiently addressed.Address emergency situations including major incident response and security call involvementAssigning patrols for corridor clearancesEnsuring effective and efficient movement of patientsEnsuring all messages, documents, specimens, parcels and mail also blood supplies collection and delivery within or between the hospitals is completed in a timely efficient mannerAttend the daily 12pm ED safety huddle to communicate relevant updates, ensure smooth coordination with the Emergency Department, and address any immediate concerns related to porteringShift handover

2. Ensures that all routine duties as detailed in the Porters Job Descriptions are carried out satisfactorily.

3. Assesses the availability of staff to deploy accordingly to :Address emergency situationsAd hoc transport requests.Sickness absence

4. To lift and transport patients within the hospitals using various forms of lifting aids when necessary.

5 Lift, carry, handle and transport goods within the hospitals including food, linen, laundry, beds and bedding, furniture, medical and other equipment, stores, refuse, SSD, Pharmacy items - this list is not exhaustive.

6 Recognise, check and identify full range of medical gases, order, connect, disconnect, change regulators and manifolds on medical gas cylinders following laid down standing operating procedures for safety purposes.
