Job summary

The Medical Equipment Library provides a centralised service for the management and distribution of commonly used medical devices and associated equipment within Harrogate District Hospital.

The department is responsible for ensuring that equipment is available when and where it is required, maintained in a safe and serviceable condition, and decontaminated in line with infection prevention standards. The service supports clinical teams by improving utilisation of resources, reducing risks associated with equipment shortages or inappropriate use, and providing training on core devices such as beds and mattresses.

Through these functions, the department plays a key role in promoting patient safety, operational efficiency and compliance with Trust and regulatory requirements.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support the delivery of a safe, efficient and responsive Medical Equipment Library service. This will include the collection, decontamination, storage, issue and return of a wide range of medical devices, mattresses and consumables across Harrogate District Hospital.

The role ensures that equipment is available in a timely manner to meet patient care needs, and that devices are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and safety.

The post holder will contribute to accurate record-keeping, stock control and liaison with clinical teams and external service providers, thereby supporting the overall governance and assurance framework for medical device management.

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above in English and Mathematics, or evidence of equivalent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Evidence of basic IT competence (Microsoft Office, email, spreadsheets).
