Job summary

We are looking for proactive team member to a carry out the duties as a Fire Safety Advisor to provide professional guidance and support in relation to Fire Safety and risk management to managers and staff through Simply Serve Ltd at Yeovil District Hospital and affiliated NHS organisations. The post deputises for the Fire Safety Manager and acts as an appointed Competent Person for Fire Safety in order that the Trust and supported organisations can fulfil their legal responsibilities.

To lead, implement, co-ordinate and maintain efficient fire prevention services including delivering a fire safety education programme. The post carries out and delivers the outcomes of Fire Risk Assessments and develops fire evacuation procedures.

This is a diverse role that spans all activities of the trust and is responsible for advising on technical fire matters and for monitoring the state of fire precautions and fire safety in premises for which the Trust is responsible and for the provision of training in fire safety to all Trust Staff.

The post holder(s) will act as the point of liaison between the Fire Authority and the Trust at an operational level.

Main duties of the job

Lead on fire risk assessment delivery and outcomes with schemes of work.

Oversee compliance in areas such as developing fire evacuation plans, oversight of fire alarm systems, fire door, fire damper testing regimes and firefighting equipment associated with premises, maintaining records and improvements.

Advise on and develop passive fire safety protection in building compartmentation measures.

Work with estates and facilities staff to ensure that contractors working within the Trust are aware of fire safety requirements and carry out regular inspections of premises to ensure that fire safety is being maintained.

Provide fire safety education and training to Trust staff and associated persons such as contractors in their responsibilities regarding fire safety.

Coordinate with Estates staff and planning teams, contractors, local building control and Fire Authority in the specification of fire precautions in new and existing premises.

Advise on fire safety implications at the planning, design, construction and commissioning stages of all new projects, ensure they meet any applicable legislative requirements, in doing so meet and liaise with the appropriate inspectors.

Assist in the development and review of fire safety strategies and protocols for all new and existing premises.

You will be working within Simply Serve Ltd (SSL) which is a subsidiary organisation of Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be based at Yeovil District Hospital within the Estates and Facilities department. This is an operational role requiring being present on site for the duration of employment with flexible working at times when cover is available. Provide professional technical advice and support to the Fire Safety Manager (SSL) in support of Estates services and operational site managers on the implementation of fire safety policies and procedures in line with legislation including; the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005;The Fire Safety Act 2021; the Building Safety Act 2022; with particular regard to the responsibilities and duties of the Fire Safety Advisor as defined in HTM 05-01.
