Job summary

We are seeking a Porter on a zero hour basis to join our team, working at our North Tees hospital site. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a supportive team, to help provide a high quality and efficient, customer orientated Portering service working within our hospitals. Full training will be provided, so previous experience is not essential, and this will be a great role for someone looking for the next step in their career.

(Please note this position is to cover as and when needed to support the service, working across the 7 days including nights)

Main duties of the job

The role will involve both working under the supervision of the Facilities Team Leaders, but also working independently during shifts, and exercising initiative.

Typical Day of Working in the role of a Porter:

Responsible for the movement of patients by bed/trolley/wheelchair between Wards and Departments

Collection and Delivery of laundry, pharmacy boxes, bedding and furniture throughout the hospital

Exchange of medical gas cylinders

Collection and Delivery of specimens, blood bags and medical records

Cleaning of wheelchairs and trolleys after every use.

Potentially provide driver cover for vehicles including vans and the shuttle bus, and hospital tugs.

What are we looking for?

Full training will be provided for the specific role, but we are looking for previous experience of working with the general public.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to work autonomously, using own initiative, as well as part of a team

Able to work in a fast-paced environment, where quick thinking skills are essential to take action in a timely manner where required
