As a Maintenance Operative (Electrical Bias), you'll carry out first-line maintenance, planned preventative tasks, and minor repairs on a wide range of electrical systems and equipment - from lighting and power to nurse call and fire detection systems. every task you compete helps to keep our hospital environments safe, functional, and compliant for patients, visitors, and staff.

Main duties of the job

In this varied and hands-on role, you will:

- Carry out first-line fault finding repairs, and checks on electrical plant and equipment.

- Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks to ensure the safe and efficient operation of systems.

- Assist with minor electrical installations and replacement works

- Record all maintenance work accurately using digital tools such as PDAs or CAFM systems

- Liaise with departments to arrange access to clinical and non-clinical areas, minimising disruption to patient care.

- Report defects or hazards promptly and work in full compliance with all Health & Safety and electrical regulations.

- Maintain tools, materials, and equipment safely and efficiently.

- Support apprentices and colleagues, promoting teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement within the Estates department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised and registered electrical apprenticeship.
  • BTEC ONC, City & Guilds Advanced Craft, or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
  • City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 and Level 3 Electrical Engineering
  • Full current UK driving licence

Desirable

  • City & Guilds 2382 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations

Experience

Essential

  • Electrical-biased maintenance experience within a building or facilities environment.
  • Experience carrying out basic fault finding and repairs on electrical systems

Desirable

  • Experience in a healthcare or similar public sector environment.

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential

  • Basic knowledge of electrical building services and specialist hospital systems.
  • Ability to identify and report electrical or mechanical faults
  • Competent IT user, including CAFM systems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Customer-focused approach
