Domestic Supervisor, GMS Band B1 (32 hours a week)

Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is looking for a motivated and approachable Domestic Supervisor to join our Facilities team. In this role, you'll help lead our domestic services, supervising cleaning staff to make sure patients, visitors and staff experience a safe and welcoming environment.

You'll play a key part in supporting infection prevention, maintaining high cleaning standards, and ensuring smooth day-to-day service delivery across our hospital sites. As a supervisor, you'll be responsible for motivating and supporting your team, making sure tasks are completed to a high standard and in line with healthcare cleanliness regulations.

This is a varied role that involves both people leadership and operational responsibilities, with opportunities to contribute to service improvements and professional development.

We have the following shift available:

Thursday to Sunday

10pm - 6am = 32.0 hours per week

£12.96 per hour basic

£17.24 authorised overtime rate (paid after 37.5 hours)

Saturdays £17.50 per hour

Sundays and Public Holidays £21.90 per hour

Weekdays between 8pm and 6am £17.50 per hour

With enhancements added to this shift pattern this would be an annual salary of £29,095 per annum

Main duties of the job

Supervise daily cleaning operations across wards, clinics, offices, and public areas.

Monitor cleaning standards and take action to maintain compliance with infection prevention and National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness.

Support and motivate domestic staff, providing training, and regular team briefings.

Ensure safe and effective use of cleaning materials and equipment, and maintain stock levels.

Contribute to staff deployment, rotas, and cover arrangements to maintains service continuity.

Record and report staff attendance, compliance and training.

Liaise with ward managers, clinical staff and other service areas to ensure high-quality customer-focused delivery

Assist with audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities

  • Relevant cleaning/domestic qualification (e.g., BICS Level 2/3, NVQ in Cleaning)
  • Food hygiene Level 2 or equivalent
  • Health & safety Training (e.g., COSHH awareness, manual handling, Level 2 H&S)
  • Leadership or team leading qualification (ILM Level 2 or equivalent)

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in domestic or cleaning services
  • Experience supervising, coordinating or leading a team
  • Experience working independently and managing competing priorities

Desirable

  • Experience managing staff rotas, allocation, or cover arrangements
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated environments

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential

  • Knowledge of cleaning standards, infection prevention, and safe handling of chemicals
  • Knowledge of COSHH regulations and safe storage/use of cleaning materials
