Job summary

Gloucestershire Managed Services now has an exciting opportunity for an Senior Engineer to join the team at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The Medical Engineering Department at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consists of a mixed workforce of 37 members of staff with varying backgrounds and abilities.

There are workshops located on two sites, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital.

The Senior Engineer will be located chiefly at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but may occasionally provide cover for Cheltenham General Hospital Medical Engineering

There is a free bus provided between the Gloucester and Cheltenham sites and there are GMS provided lease cars available for other off site work.

Main duties of the job

To undertake planned preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of medical devices for NHS and private organizations within the county of Gloucestershire to ensure the devices operate effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime. The medical devices will include electronic, electrical, mechanical, electro - mechanical and medical gas systems

To ensure compliance with medical equipment regulatory requirements and best practice by following established Medical Engineering quality standards

Job description

Job responsibilities

- To undertake planned preventative maintenance and repairs on a variety of medical equipment for NHS and private organizations within the county of Gloucestershire

- To support senior Medical Engineering staff in planning and executing service and repair visits and other projects when requested

- To undertake and update training on a variety of medical equipment, to include electrical, mechanical, electro - mechanical and medical gas systems

- To technically train Medical Engineering staff when requested

- To supervise and assist members of Medical Engineering staff when requested

- Technically analyse medical equipment that has been involved in an adverse clinical incident, liaising with clinical staff, manufacturers and team leaders to provide a detailed technical report

- Assist in medical equipment trials, evaluation and selection by advising on the technical specification, purchasing, training, maintenance, repair and disposal

- Accurately use computer skills to operate the various I.T. systems within Medical Engineering in order to record activity and equipment details ensuring that the information is accurate for both customer and managerial needs

Essential

  • Qualified to BTEC Level 3, HNC, HND or equivalent in an engineering based subject
  • Clear evidence of continual professional development
  • ISO EN 9001:2015 Quality system or other ISO accreditations

Experience

  • Appropriate recent relevant experience servicing and repairing medical devices
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of maintaining electronic, electrical, mechanical or electro - mechanical medical devices and the skills to diagnose and repair complex faults on medical instruments and devices
  • Competent with IT systems including Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and Intranet

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential

  • Good communication, interpretation and interpersonal skills in the English language to provide advice to patients, visitors and all levels of hospital staff
  • Knowledge of MHRA, CQC and other national healthcare bodies
  • Developed analytical skills and problem solving ability
  • High degree of manual dexterity and good co-ordination of sensory skills
