Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the team in Estates at Cheltenham General Hospital.

We are looking for an enthusiastic building crafts person, to provide a comprehensive, basic, building maintenance service backed by a thorough understanding of specialist coatings and materials including those used specifically in a healthcare environment.

Main duties of the job

Perform a wide range of building works to include clinical and non-clinical areas.

To have received COSHH training for the safe handling, storage and use of paints, thinners and specialist cleaning materials.

To have a good understanding of building construction and fabrics.

The ability to read and understand Building drawings.

To have the ability to assess internal and external building defects, then recommend and apply suitable repair material.

To have flexibility in working with allied materials using basic building skills. i.e.: floor covering repairs, wall protection, ceiling tiles and replacing hardware and fittings in order to comply with statutory Fire & DDA regulations.

To have good communication skills and be able to report in an accurate and concise manner.

To be able to work on own initiative and as part of a team as circumstances dictate.

To have a customer focused approach to work and be able to carry out work with the minimum of disruption to the department, patients and staff.

To hold a full, clean driving licence.

Organise resources including labour, materials and transportation.

Have the ability to prioritise and plan own workload utilizing the MiCad management system mobile data, for which appropriate training will be given.

Obligation to undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques

Be able to instruct others on aspects of own work relating to original trade, including other trades staff, maintenance assistants and contractors.
