Job summary

Responsible for the food distribution service to inpatient areas and retail outlets to ensure meals delivered to patients staff and visitors meet Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) quality standards and food hygiene legislation.

Develop good working relationship with catering teams, departments, customers and patients.

Lead on food wastage, developing systems with ward staff and retail staff to reduce food waste levels, monitor and report.

Work as part of the catering management team to develop catering systems within GMS

Deputise for the catering manager on aspects of GMS patient meals and retail services during times of absence and as requested.

Manage all catering staff on CGH site

Managing the clearing down and washing up of all equipment and crockery used for the 3 meal services

In conjunction with the catering managers participate in the recruitment and training of new and existing staff in the patient meals/ retail catering service

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Working closely with inpatient areas and catering teams including retail areas to develop and implement policies and procedures to reduce and monitor food wastage effectively.

2. Take responsibility for the planning and allocation of staff duties to ensure efficient and effective use of catering resources.

3. To ensure all stock items are ordered and stock is rotated in accordance with the Trust HACCP, catering department policies and procedures and standing financial instructions.

4. To develop and maintain work schedules to ensure all tasks are included to ensure service is delivered in a timely manner.

5. Effectively deal with any enquiries, requests or complaints from Patients and clinical staff, feedback to catering teams and act to resolve issue and feedback as appropriate.

6. Ensure compliance with Food Hygiene Legislation and GMS HACCP plan, with specific emphasis on food temperatures and record keeping, staff personal hygiene, uniform, taking corrective action in compliance with GMS policies and procedures.

7. Supervise and direct the CGH catering team to ensure compliance with Food hygiene legislation, and ensure the environmental will well-kept and maintained, report any defects and maintenance requests to Estates

8. To manage supervisors for patient meals and retail staff on a daily basis, undertake staff meetings, conduct sickness absence reviews. To investigate and report any grievance, disciplinary or welfare matters in conjunction with HR and the catering management team

9. Undertake staff appraisals on a regular basis, identify staff training needs, arrange plan and coordinate training activities.

10. In conjunction with the site catering manager participate in the recruitment and training of new and existing staff in the patient meals/catering service

11. To accompany the Monitoring Officer or Environmental Health Officer on formal performance reviews (audits) and organise rectification of unsatisfactory work as necessary. To conduction hygiene audits as part of the trust due diligent process

12. To ensure that all staff follow good working practices relating to Health & Safety, to undertake and review Health and safety Risk Assessments and undertake staff tool box talks

13. To take the lead and manage all training in the department making sure that all staff are up to date with their training requirements

14. To manage the reading of menu cards on the menumark system for CGH site
