Inclusion services are delighted to be piloting full-time trainee Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner roles in our Staffordshire Substance Use service, with the required training course planned to start in March 2026.

Over the 12-month training period individuals will attend study at University of Derby (in person and remote learning) as well as spending time working clinically in a substance use service. Your training will be fully funded, and you will be eligible for a full-time qualified permanent Band 5 position on completion of the training course. In return, we ask that you commit to staying with us for at least two years after you qualify.

In order to start the training programme, successful applicants need to be able to start employment in February 2026.

During the 12 months training this role will be paid at band 4 AFC. On successful completion of training the role will move to a band 5 position and offered as a permanent post.

Main duties of the job

As a trainee MHWP you will, under supervision,o Work within a prison mental health/substance use service when not completing the programme of study.o Complete all aspects of the taught programme of study and progress successfully through all aspects of appraisal related to this.o Develop and practice psychologically-informed interventions (not therapy) under supervision, with adults in our service and our communities.o Support collaborative care and treatment packages, alongside other members of the multi-disciplinary team.o Develop caring, supportive, and empathic relationships with people using our services who may be in significant distress alongside guiding towards partner services which may benefit them or their families/carers.

You will need to have flexibility and adaptability and a passion for working with adults with complex needs. Additionally, you may have some knowledge of mental health / substance use work and feel passionate about supporting these client groups
