Prevention Project Support Worker

Job summary

Based within the South Staffordshire Open Clinic Sexual Health Prevention Team the Project Support roles will be responsible for planning and delivering work within the local community to increase access to condoms through the C-Card Condom Distribution Scheme; as well as provide general health promotion support and targeted intervention training, with emphasis on the young people.

Successful candidates will be experienced working within community settings, have good communication and interpersonal skills and be confident in engaging with service users of all ages. Organisational skills are also key to the role as Project Support Workers are often working independently and will be required to plan their time and manage resources effectively.

The post holders will be part of the wider Open Clinic Sexual Health Prevention Team, covering Staffordshire, Stoke-on-Trent, Shropshire and Telford. As such they may be required to travel between these areas.

Main duties of the job

Working collaboratively with other team members, services and partners to support people within local communities with the aim of improving outcomes, including encouraging access to services such as C-Card Condom Distribution Scheme, postal STI testing and use of pharmacy services etc.

The post holder will be an integral member of the Integrated Sexual Health Service. They will work within the local community to deliver the Prevention agenda, including:

  • Increased access to condoms through the coordination of the Condom Distribution Scheme as well as provide general health promotion support and targeted intervention training.
  • Contributing towards reports for commissioners and key stakeholders.
  • Identifying relevant organisations and encourage and assist them to establish the scheme to increase and maintain the number of outlets.
  • Delivering training, events and information sessions to a range of audiences to promote the CDS and wider integrated sexual health service
  • Working with partners, third sector and voluntary organisations to improve access to sexual health services for vulnerable service users, e.g. supported housing providers, educational establishments, youth offending teams
  • Support delivery of Prevention Projects to meet the requirements of the service specification, which includes working with vulnerable individuals and communities, under the guidance of the Senior Project
  • Facilitating and monitoring the supply of C-Card stock and resources to outlets signed up to the scheme.
