Job summary

The Sexual Health and HIV Services across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent have an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to work in the field of HIV.

This opportunity is open to experienced registered nurses with experience in HIV, to help deliver new models of care for HIV patients.

Working within an integrated sexual health clinic, the role involves providing direct clinical care and assessment. This role includes holding a caseload of clients living with HIV, with complex medical, treatment and/or psychosocial issues.

The role involves supporting clients with a new HIV diagnosis, identifying those requiring assessment and review, undertaking relevant clinical care and maintaining stable clients on antiviral medication, which includes prescribing.

Care coordinating requires working in close collaboration with Clinical Nurse Specialists, Consultants, and other Clinicians within the Service, as well as community and secondary care providers.

You would need to be flexible, able to use your own initiative, work with a wide range of health professionals and be sensitive to the needs of patients and families. Experience in the field of HIV care would be essential as would evidence of professional development.

Main duties of the job

The HIV Advanced Clinical Nurse Specialist (ACNS) will work within MPFT HIV specialised service providing high quality healthcare for people diagnosed with HIV. This will include the continued review and development of the service in line with national guidance/standards from NHIVA, BHIVA and the West Midlands Regional Prescribing Group. Acting in partnership with stakeholders guiding local service provision and strategic response.

The ACNS will lead on the delivery of the nurse-led HIV community clinic in accordance with the Standing Operational Policy, taking responsibility for auditing and updating this and other policies/procedures relating to HIV care. Supervising, managing and assisting other team members in fulfilling the clinical component of their role.

To act as an advocate for the needs of service users, developing appropriate models of care to meet on-going changing HIV health needs. Providing highly specialised advice across professional and organisational boundaries on all matters related to HIV treatment and care.

Function in a variety of non-provider roles including educator and researcher, contributing to nursing, medical and other disciplines' practice and development.
