Job summary

Your role will involve making a positive difference to the lives of people in prison in the HMP and YOI Stoke Heath. You will provide some consultation and formulation to colleagues appropriate to the banding of the role, as well as providing direct clinical work focussing on trauma related difficulties.

You will work with the Team Manager and Principal Practitioner Psychologist to ensure that all members of multidisciplinary teams have access to psychologically informed ways of thinking about service users. There will be opportunities to develop and deliver training, as well as to gain experience in delivering psychological therapy within a prison environment.

Additional tasks may include providing reflective practice spaces for teams, delivery and supervision of group work and involvement in research, evaluation and audit activity.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for HCPC registered applied psychologists (we believe forensic, counselling or clinical psychologists may have the required competencies) who are passionate about social justice and reducing health inequalities. Given the challenges of working in a prison environment, in considering the banding of the role, we are looking for people who have experience of working in a prison or other forensic setting, although this does not need to be as a qualified psychologist. You will have experience of delivering psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions.

Youwill enjoy working independently and have the skills to develop excellent working relationships with service users, colleagues and commissioners. You will support the shared aims of Inclusion and HMPPS to work towards creating more trauma informed environments and services within prisons.

About us

Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust Inclusion service offers mental health and drug & alcohol services, in the community, and in prisons, and has contracts across the country.

As an organisation we serve a population of 1.5 million and currently employ around 9000 members of staff.

The supportive Inclusion psychology team is led by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The team meet regularly for professional development, and reflective space. Working in prisons can be both challenging and rewarding, and you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced prison psychologists. We will support you to access regular clinical supervision and appropriate professional development, including further training in psychological therapies. The team is also keen to develop audit, research and service improvement activity so there will be opportunities to conceptualise and contribute to relevant projects within your prison.
