Main duties of the job
Prison Mental Health and Substance Misuse work is vital to improve the health and wellbeing of prisoners and reduce re-offending. Our teams have great potential to turn lives around, enable recovery and reverse social exclusion.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in managing and leading Mental Health/ Substance Misuse services. Experience or interest in working in Prison or Forensic services would be advantageous but not essential. Management and leadership of interventions for those experiencing acute and severe mental illness is a significant part of this role. A mental health professional registration is required as is a comprehensive working knowledge of the Mental Health Act in relation to those people serving prison sentences that require transfer to hospital.

The prisons and their populations are very different, making the work varied and interesting, with excellent opportunities to grow and develop a range of skills. With a strong background in leading/managing Mental Health /Substance Misuse services and a mental health related professional registration, the successful candidate will have a proven record of effective operational management and a proven ability to develop high quality services. You will have the skills to develop and maintain positive working relationships with a range of stakeholders and partners including with our lead provider Practice Plus Group (PPG) and other prison services and departments.
