Job summary
The post holder is responsible for delivering a safe, efficient and cost-effective Estates maintenance service across all Trust properties. The role involves carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, installation and improvement works in compliance with statutory requirements, organisational standards and Health and Safety legislation.
The position requires a high degree of technical competence, flexibility and teamwork, including supporting other trades, contractors and undertaking tasks outside core skills when required. The post holder participates in a shift rota to ensure service provision 24/7 and must be capable of responding to emergencies, working across trade boundaries and operating in challenging conditions.
In addition to technical duties, the role promotes continuous quality improvement and upholds the Trust's values by maintaining a positive professional image and supporting an inclusive, safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
Main duties of the job
Accountable to the supervisor and Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for the cost effective and efficient operation of all plant, services and equipment within his control, including the planning, monitoring and co-ordination of engineering maintenance programmes within the Estates department.
Mentor Apprentices, Maintenance Assistants and trainee staff.
Undertake engineering maintenance on a day-to-day basis, including dealing with operational incidents as and when they arise. Effectively diagnose engineering faults and initiate repairs.
Working to specifications and drawings for revenue and capital works carried out by contractor and direct labour.
Undertake and implement the programme of engineering maintenance, considering the operational requirements of the site.
Liaise with the wider Estates Management team to prepare engineering maintenance and plant replacement programmes on an annual basis.
Carry Minor New Works as requested by customer, to benefit wards and departments.
Assist the control of contractors on maintenance and minor capital projects as required.
Assist with investigations into engineering failures of plant, service, or equipment with reference to complaints and litigation issues including Health, Safety and Welfare at work, incident reporting and risk management .

Co-operate with the wider team in updating annual maintenance plans.
Carry out risk assessments for engineering related issues.
Advise line management on needs for plant replacement.
