Main duties of the job
Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead.
We are looking for reliable, flexible and well-motivated individuals who take pride in their work, to work as Facilities support officers providing patient /visitor focused customer service and providing healthcare security and portering services.
We are committed to the delivery of a high quality patient/staff experience and the successful candidates will be expected to maintain these high standards, showing excellent communication skills. You must be able to work effectively as part of a team and on your own, and have a flexible attitude to your work to meet service needs.
About us
QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.
We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).
In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.
QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate.

Job description
Job responsibilities
- To carry out internal and external patrols of all Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust premises to deter crime, vandalism and acts of violence against Trust staff and assets.
- To respond to all patient and staff safety incidents including major incidents and fire.
- Control Room CCTV, including the processing of CCTV data.
- Switchboard call handling
- To provide an on-site and off-site alarm response service.
- The support and management of clinically related challenging behaviour.
- To complete comprehensive incident reports and associated assignment documentation.
- To liaise with Police as required for incident management.
- To provide escort duties if and when required.
- To provide general assistance to all staff, visitors and patients in a courteous and professional manner
- The operation of all car parking systems including barrier management and first line response fault fixing, consumable replenishment and the collections of takings.
- Report building and equipment defects to ensure remedial action is taken.
- Patient transportation
- The collection and delivery service for internal and external mail, parcels, supplies, pharmacy items.
- Furniture collection and removal.
- The storage, distribution and collection of medical devices
- The collection of dirty and the distribution of clean linen
- The collection and safe storage of site waste
