Job summary
This unique role offers the chance to be part of a growing team within the QE Facilities Outpatient Pharmacy based in the Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and skilled Pharmacy Technician to join us in a Medicines Procurement support role. Applicants must be a GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician and hold a flexible attitude to work. The candidate must work as part of the pharmacy team to deliver a high quality, patient focused service, and be able to work independently.
Main duties of the job
This role will require working closely with other Lead Pharmacy Technicians to establish a dedicated Medicines Procurement role in QE Facilities with the aim to achieve excellent pharmacy stock management, ensuring patients get optimal outcomes from their medicines.
Support with goods receipting and handling of all identified issues.

QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.
We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).
In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.
QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate.
QEF is a separate legal entity that operates along commercial lines, with separate governance arrangements and the ability to recruit its own staff on its own Terms & Conditions to provide greater flexibility. QEF has been established on the solid foundations of the NHS and is able to provide a flexible, proactive range of high quality services, delivered on the lines of a commercial organisation.

- Work as part of the pharmacy team to deliver a high quality, patient focused service for QE Facilities Pharmacy Services.
- Demonstrate high level of competency in the use of the JAC Medicines Management System for stock ordering and stock control.
- Have delegated responsibility for authorising pharmacy orders within agreed limits.
- Participate in the required stock taking procedures and support any stock discrepancies identified with Pharmacy Supervisors and the Pharmacy Manager.
- Ensure that all information on pharmacy systems relating to medicines supply is up to date and reflects current pricing details, and meets current medicines management practices.
- Follow processes in place to have all invoices matched and passed in a timely manner for payment.
- Follow processes to source unlicensed medicines and maintain appropriate records.
- Support the action of Drug Alerts and Recalls to ensure the pharmacy remains compliant.
- Take responsibility for the collation of QEF Pharmacy Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets for the service.
- Organise the training and coaching of new dispensing staff working in procurement roles with support and direction from the Pharmacy Manager.
- Hold effective service encounters and make independent judgements when dealing with Trust teams e.g. Accounts Payable, while promoting our core values.
- Meet with other service leads e.g. Trust Procurement Lead Technician, to discuss supply issues and agree delegated action plans with timely outcomes.
