Job summary

To lead and be responsible for the provision of an expert financial management service to the business. To lead and be responsible for the monthly reporting for the nominated areas, including the production of high quality information, cost and income analysis, forecasting and the presentation of this information.

To support the Heads of Service & Service Managers in the discharge of their financial responsibilities; including maintaining a balanced budgetary position, development and reporting of the cost improvement programme (CIP) and the financial modelling of service developments.

To contribute to the development and implementation of the Company's medium to long term financial strategy.

Main duties of the job

Responsibilities of the job include:

  • Record financial transactions for project, department, or company
  • Prepare financial statements for internal and external use
  • Reconcile spending with budget as part of job costing
  • Analyse financial performance and forecast longer term horizons
  • Recommend methods and strategies for cutting cost
  • Maintain records and support auditing efforts
  • Advise company and/or department management on financial decisions
  • Make upper-level strategy recommendations based on financials
  • Advising managers about the financial implications of business decisions to aid growth and profit.
  • Preparing reports, budgets, commentaries and financial statements
  • liaising with managerial staff and other colleagues
  • Assist with the preparation of the year end company accounts and provide appropriate working papers
  • carrying out financial performance meetings with company divisional managers
  • developing and managing financial systems / policies in relation to management accounting
  • controlling and forecasting income and expenditure and making sure spending is in line with budgets

About us

QE Facilities (QEF) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust (GHNT), based in the North East of England.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).

In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

QE Facilities work to their own Terms and Conditions and these are not the same as Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust Terms and Conditions. This is not an Agenda for Change Pay Rate.

  • -Knowledge of the NHS financial regime and the challenges that this entails
  • -Proficient in the use of computerised and manual financial systems, including spreadsheets and database packages.
  • -Computer literate with a high level of IT skills required to deal with the range of financial systems in use within the Trust, with particular emphasis on advanced Excel skills.
  • -Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • -Excellent analytical and numerical abilities
  • -Sound business knowledge
  • -Accuracy and an eye for detail
  • -A meticulous and methodical approach
  • -Awareness of Healthcare related issues

  • CCAB Qualified Accountant or qualified by significant experience in management accounting
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development

  • Expert experience of Financial Management in the NHS and of working in a multi-agency and disciplinary environment
  • Experience of producing financial analysis for statutory returns
  • Experience of computerised financial ledger systems
