Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join the specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (SIHMDS) laboratory within North West London Pathology (NWLP) at Hammersmith Hospital.

This role is primarily based in the molecular section of SIHMDS and demonstrable genomic knowledge and experience for this post is essential. The successful applicant will be required to take responsibility for testing, analysis, interpretation and reporting of specialised genomic investigations for both the diagnosis and monitoring of haematological malignancies.

The post holder will have managerial responsibilities for the technical staff and should possess excellent communication, teamwork, supervisory and leadership skills, whilst being able to work autonomously as required. Contribution to compliance with UKAS laboratory accreditation standards, teaching and training is necessary.

We welcome final year Scientist Training Programme students or non-HCPC registered scientists that can demonstrate ongoing progression of their Clinical Scientist HCPC portfolio. Appointment of a non-HCPC registered Clinical Scientist will be considered at Band 7 annex 21 level, until Clinical Scientist HCPC registration is obtained.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver a range of complex scientific work demonstrating excellent scientific and technicalskills with support where required.
  • Deliver with the consultant clinical scientist, clinical lead and divisional manager a routineservice to nationally accepted standards.
  • Achieve competence in the interpretation of test results and the provision of clinical advice,as appropriate.
  • Participate in audit, research and development in the agreed specialist area.
  • Participate in local and national professional training and be expected to obtain Part 1FRC Path (Associate) while in post.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

  • MSc in genetics or a closely related subject or equivalent
