Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Biomedical Support Worker to join our busy Biochemistry/Serology department. The post holder will play an important role in delivering a high quality, efficient, and patient centred laboratory service.
As an Associate Practitioner, you will assist with routine laboratory operations, help maintain laboratory equipment, and contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the department. This is a varied and hands on role that offers opportunities to rotate through different sections of the laboratory while supporting the department's quality management system and helping maintain UKAS accreditation standards.
Although primarily based in Serology, you will also be expected to provide support within Biochemistry when service needs arise.
This post has a specific requirement for evening shift cover up to 10pm, Monday to Friday and 8pm on Saturday.
Main duties of the job
- Perform analytical and technical tasks to support Biochemistry and Serology testing.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a range of automated analysers and laboratory equipment.
- Ensure full compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs), quality control protocols, and health and safety regulations.
- Assist Biomedical Scientists and Clinical Scientists with routine laboratory operations, audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to maintaining UKAS standards and departmental accreditation requirements.
- Participate in out-of-hours, weekend, and overtime rotas when required to support service delivery.
- The successful candidate should be a motivated, reliable, and proactive team player with a strong interest in laboratory science and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality diagnostic services.

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

- A Levels qualified, including science subject or NVQ 4 or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part 2) or Foundation degree
