We are on the hunt for a passionate and experienced Biomedical Scientist to join our Cellular Pathology team based at Charing Cross Hospital. We are a hub of innovation, commitment, and excellence and are looking for you to embark on a rewarding journey with us.

What We Need from You?o Commenced the Diploma of Expert Practice in Histological Dissection Pathology, or equivalent dissection experience.o A solid histology background, embedding, microtomy, frozen sections, special staining, and quality control.o Desirable experience in problem solving and staff management

We also welcome applications from qualified, HCPC-registered Band 6 Biomedical Scientists who have completed their IBMS Specialist Portfolio and are eager to progress their career into a Band 7 Advanced Dissection role.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in the surgical dissection of diagnostic A-E graded histopathology specimens (range will be dependent on experience, knowledge but also consultants discretion) which will encompass the following:
  • Evaluate clinical information on histopathology request forms and understand specimen idiosyncrasies.
  • Accurately macroscopically examine, describe and photograph specimens where necessary.
  • Dissect and select relevant material for histological processing.
  • Select appropriate preparatory procedures to aid diagnostic interpretation e.g. decalcification etc.
  • Provide a provisional diagnostic macroscopic report dictation.
  • Be able to recall complex specimens with clarity, or have supporting evidence of dissection in way of drawings or pictures.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
