Job summary

This Band 6 vacancy offers an excellent opportunity for a qualified and motivated Healthcare Scientist to join the specialist Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics (H&I) team at Hammersmith Hospital, part of North West London Pathology (NWLP).

You will support renal and stem cell transplant programmes, as well as disease association testing, within a UKAS- and EFI-accredited service. The role includes rotating through all H&I laboratory sections and contributing to the essential 24/7 on-call rota.

Applicants must be HCPC registered with a completed Specialist Portfolio/BSHI Diploma or have completed STP training. Candidates who do not yet hold the Specialist Portfolio/BSHI Diploma or STP qualification may be appointed under Annex 21 and will be supported to complete the required training within the first few years of employment, in line with NWLP policies, as this training is an essential requirement of the role.

Main duties of the job

  • Organise and prioritise work effectively to ensure timely completion and adherence toquality standards.
  • Maintain safe working practices in accordance with standard operating procedures andassist in internal and external quality assurance.
  • Validate and authorize reports as per local policies, using professional judgment whennecessary.
  • Ensure all documentation, including electronic records, complies with Trust standards.
  • Promote awareness and compliance with Trust policies and procedures among colleagues.
  • Identify and report clinical and non-clinical risks, taking appropriate actions in line withTrust risk management policy.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and calibration of equipment when workingautonomously.

NWLP Induction

The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.
