Main duties of the job
As a key member of our team, you will:
- Oversee dissection processes, rota management, and frozen section services across multiple sites.
- Provide leadership in the day-to-day management of the service.
- Guide and train Biomedical Scientists (BMS) and resident doctors.
- Lead investigations into incidents to maintain and enhance our high standards.
- This role is ideal for highly motivated individuals with a proactive, solution-focused mindset and a passion for collaborative working. Strong communication skills are essential to thrive in our fast-paced and large-scale service

NWLP Induction
The NWLP induction will run on the first Monday of each month (provided it does not fall on a bank holiday) and includes laboratory training (for relevant laboratory roles). All new staff must attend the NWLP induction during their first week with NWLP.

- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a Cellular Pathology laboratory, with at least 3 years performing high-complexity specimen dissections (Category D and E).
- Evidence of conducting formal training sessions for junior staff and rotating junior doctors on complex specimen handling and dissection techniques.
- Proven record of successfully managing performance and conducting appraisals for staff.
- High level of knowledge of all aspect of specialist subject.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a large busy pathology laboratory
- Experience of change management and process redesign

- HCPC Registration
- MSc or FIBMS in relevant discipline
- Evidence of management training or minimum 2 years' supervisory experience in a Cellular Pathology laboratory managing staff and operational workflows
- Minimum of 5 years' post-HCPC registration experience in Cellular Pathology, including expert histological dissection
Desirable
- Recognised management qualification
- IBMS Advanced Specialist Diploma in Histological Dissection
